A Mycological Study on Superficial Dermatophytosis

Abstract
Superficial dermatophytosis is one of the most common disease group in dermatologic diseases. Dermatophytoses show marked difference in their incidences and causative organisms by age, sex, occupations, environmental conditions and geographic
distributions, So we performed the clinical and mycological studies on 235 patients who had dermatophytosis from September 1993 to August 1994 in Pusan.
@ES The results were as follows
@EN 1. The sex ratio of male to female was 1.2:1.
2. Among the age group, the incidence was the highest in the fourth decade(28.5%).
3. The monthly prevalence was high in May, June, July, and August.
4. The incidence of clinical forms was tines pedis(36.2%), onychomycosis(26.8%), tinea corporis(17.0%), tinea cruris(14.5%), tinea manus(3.4%), tinea capitis(3.4%), tinea faciei(0.9%) in order of frequency.
5. The positive culture rate was 48.1% and the most common dermatophyte was Trichophyton rubrum(84.1%).
6. The incidence of isolated dermatophytes was the highest in the fourth decade which Microsporum canis was predominatly isolated in children under 10 years old.
In conclusion, the incidence of the superficial dermatophytosis was the highest in the fourth and sixth decade in this investigation. And the incidence of Trichophyton rubrum was predominently high(84.1%). But in children under 10 years,
Microsporum
canis was most commonly isolated.
